LA GRANDE EPICERIE CANOPY'S CUSTOM DESIGNED GLASS BULLIONS PARIS
Since September 2017, 80 rue de Passy has welcomed the second Grande Épicerie de Paris on the right bank, in the heart of the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Owned by the Bon Marché (LVMH Group), the establishment originally housed the high-end fashion brand Franck&Fils. The right bank version has a majestic glass dome.
The rights for the work to raise the roof were granted to the owner on the sine qua non condition of strictly identically recreating the existing vault, dating from the beginning of the 20th century and made up of glass ingots. An original glass prism was carefully unsealed to make an exact reproduction in terms of dimensions, geometry and appearance.
2,336 glass ingots identical to the original ones were cast and pressed by hand using the ancestral know-how of master glassmakers. They were placed on a base of formwork made beforehand before being reinforced and masoned in the old-fashioned way by the SOREC company. This new glass lace dome, identical to that of the early 20th century, sits majestically in the center of the Grande Epicerie.
